Key Stage Two includes Year 3 to Year 6 and builds on earlier learning to develop depth, fluency and independence across the curriculum. This phase is characterised by increasing academic challenge and a growing emphasis on responsibility and self-management. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and to see themselves as capable, motivated learners.

The Key Stage Two curriculum is ambitious and coherently structured, ensuring that knowledge and skills build progressively over time. Reading, writing and mathematics remain central, with a strong emphasis on fluency, comprehension, reasoning and application across subjects. Teaching is carefully planned and delivered by skilled staff who know their pupils well and provide appropriate challenge and support for all learners.

Oracy continues to underpin learning in Key Stage Two. Pupils are encouraged to articulate their ideas clearly, use subject-specific vocabulary and engage thoughtfully in discussion and debate. These skills support deeper understanding, critical thinking and confidence across the curriculum, as well as preparation for secondary education.

Foundational skills are continually strengthened as children read widely and with increasing sophistication, write for a range of purposes and audiences, and apply mathematical understanding in more complex contexts. Alongside academic development, there is a strong focus on personal development, including self-regulation, organisation and readiness for the next stage of education. Inclusive practice ensures that all children are supported to achieve well and feel a strong sense of belonging within the school.

By the end of Year 6, children leave Key Stage Two as confident, capable and independent learners. They are well prepared academically, socially and emotionally for secondary school, equipped with secure knowledge, strong learning habits and the confidence to succeed in the next stage of their education.
